Introducing May's theme wine, "Izu Petit Verdot"

Thank you for always using Nakaizu Winery's official online shop!

My name is Okawa and I run an online shop.

This time, we will be focusing on Izu Petit Verdot 2020, the theme wine for May!

First of all, let me say that Izu Petit Verdot 2020, produced by Nakaizu Winery, may be a red wine that is difficult to appreciate for those who are not used to drinking red wine.

just!!!

I think this wine will appeal to anyone who really loves red wine, so I hope you'll give it a try!

It is also recommended for those who regularly drink whiskey.

I think you'll really enjoy the spicy aroma from the variety and the smoky aroma from the barrel!

What is Petit Verdot?

Petit Verdot is a type of red grape grown in the Bordeaux region of France.

The name comes from the French words "petit" meaning small and "verdot" meaning green, and it is said that the fruit was named after the cold Western climate, which causes it to drop before it is fully ripe.

For this reason, there are not many wineries that brew Petit Verdot as a standalone product.

However, its great appeal is that even a small amount can add tannins, color, and a distinctive spicy accent, making it a variety well suited for blending.

Nakaizu Winery's Petit Verdot is carefully harvested and brewed at their own farm in the relatively warm Izu region, where the grapes are allowed to ripen.

Petit Verdot is a grape variety that can affect the structure of a wine even when blended in small amounts.

Aren't you curious to know what it would taste like if it were made into a single-variety wine?

Tasting report of "Izu Petit Verdot 2020"

Now, let's take a look at the appeal of Izu Petit Verdot 2020.

Let's take a closer look at the three categories of "appearance," "aroma," and "taste."

First, the appearance

Its lustrous ruby color makes you think of black-skinned fruits even before you drink it.

The edges have a light pink glow.

It has a strong viscosity and an alcohol content of 12.5%.

Next is "fragrance"

First of all, you get a strong taste of blueberries.

With a normal red wine, the attack is dominated by the aroma of fruit such as blueberry, but at the same time, or even before that, spicy aromas such as nutmeg and coriander will pass through your nostrils.

Swirling it brings out the aroma of red fruits such as plums.

There was a slight caramel-like aroma in the background, as well as a smoky flavor from the barrels.

Finally, the taste

You could call it "well-rounded tannins."

The tannins are firm, but there's no lingering aftertaste.

The acidity is mellow.

The sweetness is heavy and rich, but also subtle.

And fruity.

The aftertaste is long, about 15 seconds.

Meal suggestions to go with "Izu Petit Verdot 2020"

I would like to recommend a simple meat dish.

The "grilled marbling of Japanese black beef loin" goes without saying.

It is simply seasoned with salt and pepper, and the sweetness and umami of the meat's fat and Izu Petit Verdot 2020 are all that is needed to complete the dish.

However, my personal recommendation is the "simmered spare ribs with a rich flavor."

It goes well with red wine stew, and also with a Japanese-style base made with soy sauce. It's even better if you brown it a little at the end to give it a nice aroma.

"Just imagine."

Take a bite of the perfectly seasoned spare ribs.

The umami of the meat and the sweetness of the fat fill your mouth, and the savory aroma of the red wine and soy sauce-based sauce fills your nostrils.

Then, I took a sip of the Izu Petit Verdot 2020 poured into a glass.

The aroma of the savory sauce and the spicy, smoky aroma of the wine are intricately intertwined.

The mellow acidity washes away the fat from the meat, leaving only a fruity aftertaste and an elegant finish.

summary

We believe that the greatest appeal of Izu Petit Verdot 2020 lies in its depth of flavor and wide range of aromas, which are comparable to French wines.

The aroma changes over time and with changes in temperature, deepening the flavor and ensuring that drinkers never tire of the taste.

The rich fruit flavor and spicy aroma of the ripe Petit Verdot, along with the smoky aroma from barrel aging, will deliver a premium experience.

This is a bottle that I would recommend as a treat for yourself or as a gift for wine-loving friends and family.

I would be happy if many people would drink it (^^)

Stay tuned for the themed wines we'll be introducing next month!
