The Japan Wine Competition is one of Japan's most prestigious wine competitions, and is open to "Japanese wines" made from 100% domestically grown grapes. The competition began in 2003 as the "Domestic Wine Competition" and was renamed to its current name in 2015. In recent years, the quality of Japanese wine has improved dramatically, and it has also been gaining international recognition.
